Is Sidekick actually free for students?
Yes, completely. Students never pay to browse listings, apply, or use Sidekick Sam to build a resume. Sidekick makes money from employer job postings past a free monthly quota, not from the people looking for work.
How old do I need to be to sign up?
You need to be at least 13 to create a student account. That's a legal requirement (COPPA), not just a Sidekick rule, and it's checked automatically when you sign up.
What does "verified employer" actually mean?
An employer is verified when they sign up with an organizational email address instead of a personal one like Gmail or Yahoo. It's a first trust signal, not a full background check, and admins can adjust it by hand for edge cases.
What kinds of jobs are on here?
Part-time jobs, seasonal work, internships, and volunteer opportunities aimed at students, not full-time career roles. Postings tagged "no experience needed" are a good place to start if this is your first job search.
Do I need a resume to apply?
No. Sidekick Sam can turn a rough description of school, clubs, or a past job into a proper resume in a couple minutes, and every listing shows exactly what's required to apply before you start.
How do I know if an employer will actually respond?
Every application has a visible status you can check anytime under "My applications," and you'll get an email whenever it changes. No wondering whether your application disappeared into a void.
Can I be both a student and an employer?
Yes. One login can hold both a student profile and an employer profile at the same time; switch between them from your account menu whenever you need to.
I'm an employer - can I require a minimum age or hire for multiple spots at once?
Yes to both. Any posting can optionally require applicants to be 16+ or 18+, enforced automatically - see our guide to hiring teens for what federal law actually requires by age. And if you're hiring several people for the same role (seasonal retail, an event, a summer program), set how many positions you need and post once instead of duplicating the listing.
